AEK Athens Squad Depleted; Nathan Burns To Make First Appearance?

Could the Australian sensation be in line for a first contribution of the season?

AEK Athens manager Dusan Bajevic will have to deal with seven absences as he prepares his side for a home clash with Thrasyvoulos on Saturday.

A combination of injuries and suspensions might just hand starts to some of the younger members of the squad and perhaps a first appearance of the season for Australian prodigy Nathan Burns.

Whilst it is highly unlikely that the former Adelaide United man will start, it might just be that a match against the league’s stragglers will present an opportunity for some sort of contribution from the 20 year old.

AEK will be without long-term injury victims Antonis Rikka and Panagiotis Lagos, who both continue their respective rehabilitation programs.

Also missing will be left-back Juanfran and key midfielder Pantelis Kafes, who has been in impressive form for the Athenians this season.

Second-choice ‘keeper Jurgen Macho remains sidelined, whilst striker Edinho and rejuvenated central midfielder Tamandani Nsaliwa are both suspended.

Following a disastrous 2-1 loss at home to fellow relegation strugglers OFI Crete last week, Thrasyvoulos are in last place on the table, nine points away from safety.

Possible AEK line-up: Saja, Koutroumanos, Kyrgiakos, Majstorovic, Georgeas, Pelletieri, Pliatsikas, Manduca, Scocco, Blanco, Djebbour

AEK Squad: Saja, Arabatzis, Geraldo, Majstorovic, Alexopoulos, Koutroumanos, Pliatsikas, Kyrgiakos, Georgeas, Tacthtsidis, Pelletieri, Gentsoglou, Hetemaj, Burns, Pavlis, Manduca, Djebbour, Blanco, Scocco
