Chalkias Eyes Positive Result Against AEK
Are they title contenders? PAOK might just find out when they travel to Athens to face AEK this weekend...
PAOK goalkeeper Konstantinos Chalkias is confident his side can emerge from their away match against AEK Athens with a positive result this weekend.
The Thessaloniki giants will travel to the OAKA Spiros Louis Stadium this Sunday, where they will face Dusan Bajevic’s outfit in the Greek capital.
Currently sitting in second place on the Greek Super league ladder, six points behind league leaders Olympiakos, PAOK are continuing their superb start to the season under manager Fernando Santos.
However, their Greek international ‘keeper knows the size of the task that awaits his side.
“We face a team that is not in the position that they would have wanted,” Chalkias said.
“They are a big club and a strong team, with a lot of experienced players.
“This match needs special attention because the opposition have their own reasons for winning.
With AEK currently in fourth place and eight points behind PAOK, Sunday’s match represents an excellent opportunity for the visitors to establish themselves as genuine title contenders this season.
However, Chalkias, though confident of success, has set slightly more conservative targets for his side: “I hope and believe that we can get a positive result.
“If we win at the OAKA, it doesn’t mean that everything is finished, nor if we lose.
“The league finishes after the last match.
“Our objective is to qualify for the UEFA Cup and to build a base to from which to pursue higher goals.”
