Shunsuke Nakamura has dismissed rumours that he wants away from Spanish club Espanyol after struggling to hold down a place in the La Liga outfit's starting eleven.

The Japanese media seized upon Nakamura’s recent comments that he needed to “think about stuff” after being left out of the team in last weekend’s match with Almeria.

The 31 year-old arrived in La Liga in the summer after four successful years with Celtic.

His time in Spain has not gone well so far and it is expected by the Tokyo media that he will return to Japan at the end of the season.

"I didn't mean it that way," Nakamura told the Japanese media as he arrived home for the Christmas break.

"I meant I have to think about how to play more games."

"I'm not over the moon about things," Nakamura added.

"But it's a question of trial and error." He added: "Everything went so well during my four years at Celtic so it's a good experience to have to worry sometimes.”

Recently, Japan’s 2002 World Cup boss Philippe Troussier opined that Nakamura needed to earn his spot on the national team and should start on the bench.

Nakamura is not worrying about such comments.

"People might get concerned I could lose my match sharpness before the World Cup but I'm not done yet!"
