Andranik Teymourian wants the passionate fans of Iran to get behind the national team.

Football in the country is still reeling from Team Melli’s failure to qualify for the 2010 World Cup in June.

Iran are gearing up for a 2011 Asian Cup qualifier against Jordan on Saturday but the public are  lukewarm about the encounter.

The Fulham midfielder is hoping that the fans can put June’s disappointment behind them and look to the future.

"The players have shown to be well prepared and very ambitious during the traning sessions. I believe that Team Melli is improving day by day," Andranik told Tehran's ISNA.

Iran defeated Iceland 1-0 last week in a warm-up match.

"The sqaud is very well organised and (caoch Afshin) Ghotbi has selected the best players of the league. I am hopeful that a victory over Iceland would help us in the match against Jordan.

"We need the support of our fans. I hope that they will bury the hatchet after the national team's failure to reach the World Cup. By coming to the stadium, they can help Team Melli to regain its real status", he added.
