Asians In Europe: Iranians On The March
It was another busy weekend for some of Asia's finest in the big leagues out west and Goal.com takes a quick look and what went on...
1 Dec 2008 22:18:51
Javad Nekounam (Iran and Osasuna)
A second goal of the season from the midfielder. He popped up at the far post to head home as Osasuna were trailing 2-0 at Malaga much like he did for Iran against Saudi Arabia recently. Osasuna then pulled level before Malaga went on to win 4-2. The Pamplona team stay bottom but at least are starting to score goals...
Shunsuke Nakamura (Japan and Celtic)
Another good game for the Japanese star. He made the only goal of the game with a fine diagonal pass for Celtic to defeat Inverness 1-0.
Masoud Shojaei (Iran and Osasuna)
Shojaei played the full game at Malaga and with nine minutes left, provided an assist for Osasuna’s equalizer. Osasuna went on to lose 4-2.
Park Ji-sung (South Korea and Manchester United)
Had a good first half but a quieter second as United won 1-0 at local rivals City. Had a hand, or head, in the goal and came off with just seconds remaining.
Makoto Hasebe (Japan and Wolfsburg)
The ex-Urawa Reds man came on with 16 minutes remaining as Wolfsburg got a creditable points at Borussia Dortmund.
Park Chu-young (South Korea and AS Monaco)
Park played the full match as Monaco built on last week’s win with a 1-0 victory at Auxerre.

Is still injured and missed the 2-0 win against FC Basle.

The young striker sat on the bench as Catania drew 1-1 with Lecce.
Shao Jiayi (China and Energie Cottbus)
The midfielder missed the eastern outfit’s defeat at Borussia Monchengladbach
Youssef Mohamad (Lebanon and FC Koln)
Had a couple of chances to score but his team were undone at the back as Hertha Berlin won 2-1.
Lee Young-pyo (South Korea and Borussia Dortmund)
Lee played a 12th consecutive full game as Dortmund were held to a goalless draw by the visiting Wolfsburg.
Vahid Hashemian (Iran and Bochum)
The helicopter is still injured after Iran’s World Cup qualifier in UAE last month and missed Bochum’s 1-1 draw with Hamburg.
Junichi Inamoto (Japan and Eintracht Frankfurt)
Ouch! Inamoto played the whole game as Frankfurt’s roller-coaster season continued. They won 4-0 in the previous round but were thrashed 5-0 by Werder Bremen on Saturday. Ina also got a yellow card.
Roda Antar (Lebanon and Koln)
Another defeat for Koln and this time, it was an unusual 90 minutes on the bench for the midfielder.
Kim Do-heon (South Korea and West Brom)
Was an unused substitute as the Baggies lost 2-1 at Wigan to stay bottom.
Daisuke Matsui (Japan and St Etienne)
Les Verts climbed off the bottom with a 2-1 win at Nancy Lorraine. Matsui had a good game in the middle and was withdrawn with just two minutes remaining.
Mehdi Mahdavikia (Iran and Eintracht Frankfurt)
Kia sat on the bench as Frankfurt lost 5-0 at Bremen.
Seol Ki-hyeon (South Korea and Fulham)
The Sniper has some injury niggles and didn’t feature against Aston Villa.
Andranik Teymourian (Iran and Fulham)
See above

Ono was on the bench as Bochum got a good point at home to Hamburg.
Ali Al Habsi (Oman and Bolton)
A familiar story for the giant goalkeeper who was an unused substitute as Bolton beat Sunderland.
