More or less secure in the net, the Catania man was equal to most of the Chile attempts but will be disappointed by his indecision in the play which led to the visiting side's consolation goal.
Was tireless down the right flank, always on hand to aid the attack and quick to release Argentina on the counter. Blotted his copybook with a bad mistake which almost cost his side a goal in the first-half.
Nervous at times before the imposing figure of Chupete Suazo, still has to prove himself as an international-class defender after countless chances.
Did well against an opposition which attacked rapidly and in numbers, no glaring errors at the back and filled in ably for Martin Demichelis.
The youngster is a favourite of Sabella from his Estudiantes days, and put in an efficient performance down the left with a few explosive moments.
Á. di María
One of the Real Madrid man's best performances in the national shirt. Supplied two perfect assists for Higuain, and always looked a threat wide on the left as he revelled in the space left by the narrow Chile set-up.
A surprising replacement for the suspended Javier Mascherano, but was not overawed by the occasion and put in a solid if resoundingly unspectacular display.
A quiet influence in midfield and struggled in the early stages, but got better as the game progressed and contributed some neat touches in the Albiceleste build-ups.
One of the big surprises in the team, 'El Principe' can be pleased with his display. Always on hand to help out in attack, and was heavily involved in Argentina's third strike.
He will be delighted with his first-half goal, but more so with the lethal partnership he formed in a more advanced role alongside Higuain. Just got better and better and supplied a delightful assist for the fourth.
Simply outstanding from 'Pipita'. A hat-trick of perfectly-taken strikes was complemented by an assist when his great through-ball fed in Messi, and was too much to handle for the Chile backline.
Very little he could do on any of the goals, but should have been a more commanding presence at the back to try and marshal his shambolic defence.
The centre-back was continually found out of position and exposed, although to be fair he had very little aid from those in front of him against Argentina's stellar forwards.
Given a tortuous evening by Di Maria and Sosa, and along with the rest of the backline will want to forget this match as soon as possible.
One of three men tasked with protecting the defence, he failed to hold up his end of the bargain despite some interesting forays forward. Punished for over-ambition.
Did not track Higuain for the first goal, and his evening just got worse and worse from that moment onwards. AWOL as well for the fourth and final effort.
Took his goal well to put Chile on the scoresheet in the second-half, and linked intelligently with Suazo. The game, however, called for a more defensively aware midfielder and Matias was not the one.
Carmona started brightly, imposing himself on the Argentine midfield and moving the ball forward well. Got lost in the disorganisation of the team, however, and seemed unsure of his role once Chile went two down.
Did nothing to stop the flood of Argentine players down the left, and nowhere to be seen for large portions of the encounter. Very disappointing.
A typically moody performance from the Palmeiras enigma. Moments of magic with the ball at his feet were accompanied by far too much protestation and play-acting, which did nothing to aid his side's cause.
The striker was included to take advantage of his aerial prowess, but a lack of decent service meant that his heading ability was rarely seen. Drifted out of the game before being replaced by Vargas.
A constant threat to the Argentina goal. Strong, direct and tenacious throughout, but a lack of composure when it counted let him down in a couple of instances.

Late substitution, came on when the game was already dead and buried.

Galvanised the Chile team in the few minutes he played. The youngster's cross led to their goal, and he forced a good save from Andujar late on.
