Player Ratings: Turkey 1-2 Spain

Spain grabbed all three points with a dramatic injury time winner from Albert Riera in Istanbul. Goal.com watched the game and gave each player a mark out of ten...

Spain's Fernando Torres fights with Turkey's Emre Asik during their recent World Cup Qualifier

TURKEY

Demirel 6.5 - Would have had a higher mark for two superb saves in the game, but his very bad attempt at a punch led to Spain equalising from the spot.

Gonul 5.5 - Had a tough battle against Riera, but will feel that he should not have pushed up so far in the closing moments when the Spanish winger scored.

Emre Asik 7 - Was involved throughout the game, whether it was making tackles, committing tactical fouls or building the play from the back.

Hakan Balta 6.5 - Kept Torres quiet for the majority of the game again as he and Asik formed a strong partnership in the middle of the Turkey defence.

Uzulmez 5 - Should have done much better when challenging Guiza for the high ball that led to the winning goal as that lost his side the game.

Aurelio 6 - Was fairly anonymous apart from making the odd tackle to break up the Spanish midfielders' play as they looked to pass their way through the defence.

Emre Belozoglu 5.5 - Could and should have broken up the Spanish play more, while at the same time had to provide more for his team's forwards.

Tuncay 6 - Could have done more with the chances he had, but he had more defensive work to do than he may have liked and that limited his input.

Ardan Turan 5.5 - Did not have his best game for the national team and should have been more creative going forward.

Nihat 6 - Just like in the Bernabeu, the Villarreal striker could have done so much more given his speed and technique going forward.

Senturk 6.5 - Was in the right place at the right time to prod home the opening goal and did all that was asked of him in a tireless display from the forward.

Subs

Batuhan 6 - It was a lot to ask of the youngster to replace Nihat and he failed to rise the occasion.

Sabri 6.5 - Put in a delightful cross when the scores were still level and his team-mates should have done a lot better with it.

Sahin Nuri n/a

SPAIN

Casillas 5.5 - Should have come off his line and taken command for the first goal and he also looked unusually suspect in the air.

Sergio Ramos 6 - Did not go forward as much as he did in the first meeting between the teams, but was effective at the back.

Capdevila 6 - Always influential on the left hand side and was able to play more defensively too, given Riera's role down the flank.

Pique 7.5 - An outstanding game at the back as he looked to be the one in control despite playing alongside the more experienced Marchena.

Marchena 5 - Big mistake for the goal as he lost his bearings and did not know how far away Casillas was or where Tuncay was running.

Senna 6 - Held his ground, but he did not have one of his best games in a Spain shirt and was the right choice to be the first change by Del Bosque.

Xabi Alonso 7 - Was also a presence in the midfield, but his efforts were slightly hampered by his defensive duties.

Xavi 7.5 - His passing and ability to hold on to the ball was a highlight for a Spain side that were again unable to play their short passing game.

Silva 6 - Showed touches of his ability, but was crowded out for the main part even when he attempted to cut inside in the first half instead of crossing.

Riera 6.5 - Had a fine shot in the first half and worked tirelessly in the second period to find another chance, but one was not forthcoming.

Torres 5.5 - Just like Villa at the weekend, the Liverpool forward was unable to enjoy much luck against a well organised Turkish defence.

Subs

Cazorla 6 - Added something going forward, but did not play a central role in the win despite having fresh legs.

Busquets 6 - Slotted in seamlessly when he came on and did not look out of place at the highest level.

Guiza 7 - What more could be asked of a substitute than to set up the winning goal in such dramatic fashion.
