Player Ratings: Espanyol 0-2 Real Madrid
Two second-half goals were enough for Real Madrid to close the gap on Barcelona to just four points at the top of La Primera...
ESPANYOL
Kameni 6 - Didn't have a save to make all match and could do nothing about the two goals that went past him.
Sanchez 6.5 - Put in a decent stint both in defence and also in attack, getting forward on plenty of occasions to help the front men and, more importantly, keeping Robben at bay.
Jarque 6 - Along with his partner at the back he shackled the Real Madrid forwards well and hardly gave Huntelaar or Raul a sniff at goal all match.
Pareja 6.5 - Another strong performance from the defender, who kept the dangerous and lively Madrid goal-scorers away from goal for most of the encounter.
David Garcia 6 - Until his side went two goals down he looked lively in attack and also good in defence, but once they trailed the gaps started to appear and he gave Ramos too much space on a few occasions.
Moises 5.5 - Worked hard in midfield but too often he wasted possession and will be disappointed that he couldn't pick out more passes.
Luis Garcia 6 - As usual he was very lively playing in his attacking-midfield role but he didn't really get that many chances to score and a few of his free kicks were wayward.
Martinez 5.5 - Certainly not the best display by the midfielder who, alongside De La Pena, was too often the one that lost the ball and misplaced passes.
De La Pena 7 - Unquestionably the best player for Espanyol this evening as yet again he proved just how influential he can be in midfield. In the opening half he was stringing all the moves together and even though he drifted out of the game towards the end he was the star man for the home side.
Nene 6.5 - Is proving to be a very good performer this season and he worked hard down the wing, giving Ramos a few problems and putting in some decent crosses.
Alonso 5.0 - Worked hard but too often he was isolated up front and even though he held the ball up well he couldn't really get into the game.
SUBS
Lolo 6.0 - Came on too late to change things.
Coro 6.0 - Didn't alter the game when he came on.
Tamudo 6.5 - Is coming back to full fitness and he looked lively after coming on, running at the defence and causing trouble.
REAL MADRID
Casillas 6.5 - Didn't have that many saves to make but the couple that he did have to deal with he did so well.
Ramos 5.5 - Had trouble with Nene on a few occasions and fair to say that this was not his best evening at right-back.
Pepe 5.5 - Booked for a very silly tackle early on and even though he did make some good tackles and looked strong in the air he was clumsy at times.
Cannavaro 6.5 - Probably the best Real Madrid defender this evening as he always looked to close the ball down and didn't give the Espanyol front men much time.
Heinze 6 - Has come in for some criticism lately and even though he wasn't spectacular at the Montjuic he wasn't bad either and put in a decent display.
Robben 5.5 - Certainly not at his best but that was mainly because he was well shackled by the Espanyol defence. Largely ineffective this evening.
Sneijder 5.0 - Does not look like the player he was at the start of the season and he was below-par this evening yet again with a disappointing performance.
Diarra 6.5 - Always reliable and always solid, yet again Diarra battled hard in the midfield and ensured that De La Pena & Co. did not have it all their own way.
Higuain 5.5 - The fact he was taken off midway through the second-half shows the fact that he did not have much impact on the game and he very rarely got a chance to run at the defenders.
Raul 7.0 - A performance that was so typical of Raul and the type of player he is. The coach set him up in almost an attacking-midfield role and even though he did very little for most of the game he scored the crucial second goal with a brilliant first-time finish from the edge of the box.
Huntelaar 5.0 - Like Alonso for Espanyol, he worked hard but he was almost invisible and barely touched the ball for most of the game.
SUBS
Guti 7.0 - Offered a totally different dimension to the midfield when he came on with his creativity, and more importantly he got the breakthrough that Madrid needed so badly with a brilliant free kick.
Marcelo 6.5 - Got the assist for Raul's goal with a nice pass to the striker and he looked comfortable down the flank.
Saviola 6.0 - Yet again he came on when the three points were secure.
