thumbnail Hello,

The Argentine was effectively prevented from joining Barcelona for the entirety of his agreed contract, with the Red Devils having stood to pay a significant 'fine'

Angel Di Maria's contract agreement between Real Madrid and Manchester United has been revealed by whistle-blowing website Football Leaks, with the Spanish side having included an anti-Barcelona clause.

The Bernabeu club stood to inherit €1 million should United reach the Champions League with the Argentine in their ranks, a further €5m if the player finished in the Ballon d'Or's top three and an additional €5m if he won the coveted prize.

More interestingly, however, are the sell-on clauses included in the contract, with the Red Devils having stood to lose a significant sum if Di Maria was sold to Barcelona.

Selling the player to any Liga side excluding Barcelona would have cost United €50m before the summer 2015, €40m before the summer of 2016, or €30m before the summer of 2017, with no further penalty compensation required afterwards.

Regarding Barcelona, however, the €30m 'fine' would have remained active from the conclusion of summer 2017 until the end of the attacker's contract to prevent the Premier League side strengthening Madrid's main rivals.
