Pardew confirms Newcastle interest in Riviere

Goal exclusively revealed on Sunday that the club were keen to bring the striker to St. James' Park, with the manager keen to improve on a disappointing second half of last term
Alan Pardew has confirmed that Newcastle want to make Monaco forward Emmanuel Riviere the club's sixth signing of the summer.

Goal exclusively revealed on Sunday that Pardew was closing in on deals for Remy Cabella, Daryl Janmaat and the French forward, with the former arriving later that day and the full-back undergoing a medical since.

The striker is expected to sign ahead of Newcastle leaving for their pre-season tour of New Zealand next week, and following Tuesday's 2-1 friendly loss to Oldham, the manager confirmed talks are underway.

When asked about a potential move for Riviere, Pardew told reporters: "It's another one that we're talking to. He's a player that we have some interest in."

"That's pretty close," he added, regarding Janmaat. "But that's as good as I can say [sic] at the moment. I've been involved in the [Oldham] game, so I don't know the detail [sic] of it."

In addition to the completion of Cabella's move, Newcastle have also brought in Siem de Jong, Ayoze Perez and Jack Colback - the former having scored on his debut at Boundary Park.

Pardew is keen to further bolster his squad, with Mathieu Debuchy set to complete a move to Arsenal, as he looks to improve upon a disappointing end to last season, which saw the club win just five games in 2014.

He added: "We're being active at the moment, and we need to be. We need to be stronger than we were last year."
