West Ham and Celtic are interested in Borussia Dortmund striker Julian Schieber, Goal understands.

The 25-year-old endured a frustrating season in 2013-14 at Signal Iduna Park, scoring just once in 20 appearances as he struggled to displace Robert Lewandowski up front.

Schieber’s future at Dortmund looks bleak despite Lewandowski’s departure to Bayern Munich, as the German club completed the signing of Ciro Immobile from Torino on Monday.

Goal understands that both West Ham and Celtic are keen to take advantage of his situation, while Championship side Wigan Athletic are also monitoring developments.

West ham boss Sam Allardyce, who has been tasked with securing a top-10 finish via an expansive style of football, has already signed Mauro Zarate from Velez Sarsfield, though he remains in the market for further attacking reinforcements.

Celtic were interested in Schieber in January but could not reach an agreement for a transfer with Dortmund, though the Scottish champions retain an interest in the former Germany Under-21 striker.

In an exclusive interview with Goal at the end of February, Schieber admitted he was keen to move this summer.

“Of course it's not a satisfying situation,” he said. “As a result you lack self-confidence. I must not lie to myself, I'm taking [leaving] into account.”

And he again hinted at a summer transfer on Wednesday, saying: “I like the style of football that's being played in the UK, but I'm sorry, I can't comment on those rumours.”
