Fulham are confident of fending off late interest from West Ham to land striker Kostas Mitroglou, Goal understands.

The Hammers have tried to hijack Fulham’s swoop for the Olympiakos striker in the last 24 hours even though the player had a medical at the west London club’s Motspur Park headquarters on Thursday.

But Fulham are close to finalising a deal for Mitroglou that could be worth up to £11 million. Goal understands that the transfer is being brokered by super-agent Mino Raiola, whose blue-chip clients include Mario Balotelli and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

The deal for Mitroglou will be regarded as a statement of intent given the pedigree of the 25-year-old, who has scored 23 goals in 25 matches for club and country this season.

As reported by Goal, Dimitar Berbatov is closing in on a deadline-day move to Monaco after been given the green light to leave Craven Cottage.
