Corinthians have confirmed that negotiations with Tottenham for midfielder Paulinho are "well under way".
Spurs are favourites to sign the Brazilian and are ready to meet his €20 million buyout clause.
The Brasileirao side had previously stated they were yet to receive any bids for the 24-year-old with Inter and Shakhtar Donetsk also linked with a move for the Brazil international.
But former Arsenal midfielder Edu, now director of football at Corinthians, confirmed that an agreement between the club and Spurs is close to being struck.
"The situation is well under way,” he told UOL when asked about interest from the Premier League club.
"We have to agree on some details of the negotiations, so I can't say if he will leave yet, but the negotiations are going well."
The 24-year-old is currently on Confederations Cup duty and is not expected to make a decision on his future until after the tournament.
