Rooney leaving United would be a huge disappointment, says Yorke

The former Red Devils forward admits the 27-year-old had a difficult season, but believes it is in his best interests to stay at Old Trafford
Former Manchester United striker Dwight Yorke insists David Moyes must ensure Wayne Rooney stays at Old Trafford this season.

Rooney's future at Old Trafford has come under intense scrutiny in recent weeks following a supposed breakdown in relations with outgoing Red Devils' boss Sir Alex Ferguson.

The England international is holding secretive talks with two mystery clubs as he continues to try and engineer a move away from the Premier League champions.

However, Yorke believes United must keep the 27-year-old and claims it would be a 'huge disappointment' if he were to leave.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Yorke said: “There’s always speculation with Wayne Rooney.

"This year he hasn’t played his best football but I’m sure he can turn that around.

“Manchester United are about retaining the best players and Rooney is one of those. It would be a huge disappointment if he decided to leave the football club and I’m sure David Moyes will be looking to keep hold of him.”
