Anelka undergoing Juventus medical
The former Chelsea striker is in Turin to complete his loan move from Shanghai Shenhua, having been linked with the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and QPR earlier this month
Nicolas Anelka is undergoing a medical with Juventus ahead of a loan move from Shanghai Shenhua. The former Chelsea striker has already agreed on a six-month switch to the reigning Serie A champions in principle, Goal.com understands, and his arrival in Turin will see the temporary transfer confirmed soon.
The 33-year-old had been rumoured with a return to the Premier League, with QPR boss Harry Redknapp having failed to quell rumours of a Loftus Road loan move with his recent comments earlier in January.
However, the lure of Champions League football with the Bianconeri will have played a role in Anelka opting for Antonio Conte’s side instead.
Juve general manager Beppe Moratta revealed this weekend that the Italian club have ended their pursuit of Olympique Lyonnais forward due to a valuation disagreement, and the signing of Anelka would indicate they have found a temporary solution to their striking problem.
Fernando Llorente, who had been chased by the Serie A side during last summer, will join the Turin-based club in July having signed on a Bosman transfer from Athletic Bilbao.
Anelka joins the likes of Mirko Vucinic, Alessandro Matri, Sebastian Giovinco, Fabio Quagliarella and Nicklas Bendtner in the Juventus strikeforce this season.
