Fluminense confirm loan signing of Monzon from Olympique Lyonnais

The left-back has arrived in Brazil on a temporary deal until the end of 2013, with an option to make the move permanent, after a heart scare delayed the initial switch

Fluminense have announced the loan signing of Fabian Monzon from Olympique Lyonnais.

The Argentine left-back saw his original move to Brazil delayed after medical tests prompted worries over the player's heart, though further examinations have dismissed concerns over any problem affecting his athletic performance.

The Brazilian outfit have the option of making the move permanent at the end of the current season, with the player firmly out of favour at Stade de Gerland and Flu sporting director Rodgrigo Caetano revealed his delight.

"In signing the player, we have stuck to our policy of always having at least two quality players in each position of the pitch. We are now prepared for the 2013 season," he told the club's official website.

The 25-year-old began his career at Boca Juniors and picked up a gold medal at the Beijing Olympics, before spells with Betis, Nice and Lyon.

His signing follows that of midfielder Felipe, whose move was confirmed on Friday.
