Guardiola will return next year, says Laporta

The former president believes that the coach will be back in the hot seat somewhere in 2013, but he cast doubt over the possibility of Paris Saint-Germain

Former Barcelona president Joan Laporta believes that Pep Guardiola will return to coaching in 2013.
The former Spain international is currently on a hiatus, having stepped down as Camp Nou boss at the end of last season, handing the reins to Tito Vilanova.
Laporta, who remains a close friend of Guardiola’s, thinks that Paris Saint-Germain would not fit the coach’s methods but speculates he will take a job which allows him to be creative.
"I think Pep will return as coach next year. He has a great personality, very clear ideas and he is very intelligent,” he told Swedish outlet Expressen.
“I have the honour of having good relations with him and, for me, he is the best coach in the world.
“All the big clubs would have Guardiola as coach. What would it take to convince him? He likes to create.
“There will be many reasons influencing his choice, he would analyse them all. I think he wants to have the power to decide on all sporting matters and must be comfortable working there.
“Paris? It is not obvious how they would convince Guardiola to coach there. I do not know if Paris Saint-Germain have the adequate structure for him."

However, Dortmund simply cannot be discounted. They relish the role of underdogs and are not in the least bit afraid of their illustrious rivals, having now gone six Bundesliga games without defeat against die Roten. The last time these two met in a final, in last season’s DFB Pokal, Dortmund ran out 5-2 winners. As coach Jurgen Klopp pointed out this week: “We’re not the best team in the world, but we can beat the best team in the world."

Bayern, of course, start as overwhelming favourites to prevail this evening, and understandably so. Not only did they mercilessly batter Barcelona into a shockingly tame capitulation at Camp Nou, they are also coming off the back of a record-breaking Bundesliga campaign which they finished a staggering 25 points clear of runners-up Dortmund, whom they are unbeaten against in four meetings this season.

Finals do not get much more appetising either. What we have here tonight is a game between the two best sides in Europe this season. There is just simply no disputing that. Dortmund have been beaten just once on their remarkable run to the final (quite the feat when you consider they were grouped with Real Madrid, Manchester City and Ajax), while Bayern have sparked giddy talk of a new era of die Roten dominance akin that enjoyed by the Bavarians in the 1970s by dismantling the likes of Juventus and, in particular, Barcelona on their way to Wembley.
