German outift Schalke are close to signing Barcelona winger Ibrahim Afellay on a one-year loan.

Goal.com can reveal the player has been offered on loan by the Spanish giants and the The Royal Blues are seriously considering it.

The player's agent, Rob Jansen, claimed earlier in August that his client was "not going anywhere", only to concede a few days ago that the player could be set to exit Barcelona for more playing time.

Talks between the two clubs are currently taking place and they could result in Afellay moving to the Bundesliga side where he will link up with fellow Dutch international, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar.

The 26-year-old has not enjoyed the best of times since moving to Camp Nou in January 2011, missing the majority of the 2011-12 campaign due to a knee injury.

Given that Tito Vilanova does not consider the player part of his plans for the current season, a move to Germany will likely give him more first-team starts.
