The defender is poised for a switch to the DW Stadium after Roberto Martinez influenced him to reject West Ham in favour for the Lancashire club despite initial hesitance
Wigan are on course to capture the signature Real Mallorca centre-back Ivan Ramis, according to club chairman Dave Whelan.
After being linked with a host of Premier League clubs over the summer, including Aston Villa and West Ham, it appears that manager Roberto Martinez has persuaded the Spanish defender to join him at the DW Stadium.
And Whelan has now revealed that Ramis has passed a medical and looks set to confirm the switch from the La Liga outfit.
"He has passed his medical and it is being concluded," Whelan told Wigan Today.
"It's down to the influence of Roberto because the player doesn't speak English and didn't want to go to West Ham who had already agreed a deal."
"But Roberto asked me to go out to Mallorca where I met their chairman and with the club in receivership, they accepted my offer and then I went to see the player."
The move is somewhat of a U-turn for the player who was quoted last week in saying that Wigan was “not the best offer” for him.
However, the deal looks set to be concluded before the weekend when Wigan face off against his current club in a pre-season friendly.
