The former New York Cosmos player believes the Dutchman could still be an asset to a top-level club, despite being released by AC Milan recently
Brazil legend Carlos Alberto has announced his support for free agent Clarence Seedorf in finding a new club, while also shunning Atletico Mineiro forward Ronaldinho.Carlos Alberto believes that Seedorf, whose contract with AC Milan expired recently, is a world-class player and will continue to give a 100 per cent at the highest level despite his age.
The retired Brazil right-back is certain that the Botafogo target's excellence on the pitch comes down to his vast experience in competitions like the Champions League, a level he believes the 36-year-old can still compete at.
“He [Seedorf] is an experienced player, he is technically gifted and can bring a lot of attention to Botafogo, being the worldwide known guy that he is,” the 67-year-old told Globoesporte.
“Players get to know what being a professional is like once they go to Europe. The European player has better preparation. It's a cultural thing.
“Age is a relative aspect on the pitch. Can't you see Juninho at Vasco? He's a 100 per cent.”
The Brazilian also said Seedorf’s former AC Milan team-mate Ronaldinho was irresponsible after he made a surprise move to Atletico Mineiro recently.
"He [Ronaldinho] is the definition of irresponsibility,” he stated.
“Some clubs still show interest in signing him but, if I were a sports director, I wouldn't do something like that.
“You have to show a completely different level of professionalism in football. He’s had it all in his career, but if he keeps going like that..."
