Brighton have confirmed the signing of former Manchester United stopper Tomasz Kuszczak following his release from the Premier League club.
The 30-year-old made just 32 league appearances in the six years he spent at Old Trafford, often finding himself having to make do with limited starts in cup competitions.
However, Brighton boss Gus Poyet believes it is a major coup for Kuszczak to want to play for Brighton after nine years in England’s top flight.
"There were clubs in England and abroad interested in Tomasz, but it says a lot for the ambition of this club that he wanted to sign for Brighton,” he told the club’s official website.
Brighton finished 10th last season following their promotion from League One, and Poyet believes that Kuszczak can help push the team on as he intensifies the competition for places at Falmer Stadium.
"We had been tracking his progress for some time and he will provide real competition to both Casper Ankergren and Peter Brezovan for the goalkeeper's jersey this coming season,” he continued.
“That can only be a good thing for the team moving forward."
