The Spanish club were very close to signing the Dutchman in the winter transfer window, with the Netherlands international claiming that he had agreed personal terms with Los Che.
However, a moved failed to materialise as Valencia could not come to an agreement with Ajax regarding the transfer fee.
As Van der Wiel is nearing full fitness following a persistent groin injury, Valencia are understood to be lining up another move for the 24-year-old.
But Ajax are holding out for their asking price of €10 million, a valuation the Spanish club are reportedly unwilling to meet.
