The centre-half, who captained Uruguay to Copa America glory last summer, retains a strong emotional connection with the Brazilian club and its followersParis Saint-Germain defender Diego Lugano has revealed his intention to return to Sao Paulo before he hangs up his boots.
The 31-year-old Uruguay international only arrived in the French capital last summer from Fenerbahce and intends to honour his contract with the Ligue 1 outfit.
However, Lugano has intimated that he would like to finish his career with Sao Paulo, with whom he enjoyed three successful seasons after joining from Plaza Colonia in 2003.
"Sooner or later, I will return to Brazil to play for Sao Paulo, the team where it all really started for me," he told Fifa.com.
"I feel very close to the club and the fans have asked me to come back. I also have a lot of fond memories of Turkey, but if I am to return anywhere, it will without doubt be to Sao Paulo."
Lugano, who captained his country to Copa America glory last summer, joined PSG from Fenerbahce for a reported fee of €3 million.
