Espanyol close in on Benfica's Joan Capdevila - report
The World Cup-winning left-back appears to be nearing a return to his former club after enduring a frustrating first six months at the Estadio da Luz as second-choice to Emerson
Espanyol are closing in on the signing of Benfica left-back Joan Capdevila, Sport claims.
The 33-year-old is desperate to find a new club before the end of the month after making just four competitive appearances since joining Benfica in the summer.
Deportivo La Coruna have been credited with an interest in Capdevila, but reports suggest that only Espanyol have so far initiated talks with the Portuguese club with view to a loan signing.
Having played at Espanyol between 1997 and 1999, it is believed that the World Cup winner is relishing the prospect of a return to the Catalan club.
The former Villarreal full-back joined Benfica as a replacement for Real Madrid-bound Fabio Coentrao but he has watched Emerson cement a place on the left side of the defence in coach Jorge Jesus' side.
