Former Benfica winger Geovanni has indicated that Manchester United would be a better place than Manchester City for Nicolas Gaitan to flourish.

The Premier League champions have been credited with an interest in Gaitan during the last few months, with coach Sir Alex Ferguson confessing that he is an admirer of the 23-year-old.

City are also understood to be keeping tabs on Gaitan, but Geovanni, who played for Roberto Mancini's current side in 2007-08, has warned the Argentina international that he would struggle to impress at the Etihad Stadium.

"Right now, United would be more appropriate," Geovanni told Radio Renascenca. "City have plenty of attackers, so I think he would have more chances to play at United."

Gaitan, who joined Benfica in 2010, has a €45 million release clause attached to his contract, which expires in 2016.
