Villarreal have completed the signing midfielder Jonathan de Guzman from Mallorca for an undisclosed fee.

The Dutch midfielder has put pen-to-paper on a five-year contract with the Madrigal outfit after the two clubs agreed on a reported €8.5 million deal.

De Guzman joined Mallorca from Feyenoord only last summer, becoming an integral part of the squad as the club narrowly avoided relegation from La Liga.

The 23-year-old had expressed his wish to join Villarreal, but negotiations between the two clubs dragged on until the last day of the transfer window, as Mallorca were keen to hold firm to their asking price.

The Canadian-born player, who played for the Netherlands at the 2008 Olympics, will be officially unveiled by Villarreal on Friday.
