thumbnail Hello,

The Serbian midfielder did not do enough to earn a place at the club after a season on loan, and could be heading back to his country to the first club of his career

Espanyol have announced they have terminated the contract of midfielder Milan Smiljanic.

The Serbia international joined Espanyol from Partizan in the summer of 2007 and failed to make an impression at the Catalan club, appearing just 47 times in four seasons.

Espanyol noted the 24-year-old asked for permission to travel to his country to negotiate a transfer with local clubs, with a return to Partizan, whom he represented last season on loan, believed to be in the offing.

Smiljanic, more commonly known as Lola, was loaned out to Sporting Gijon for the second half of the 2009-10 season after he was not registered by Espanyol for the league due to the club's excess of non-EU players.
