The Spanish midfielder expects to be given more playing time at the Portuguese club after being told his chances at the Camp Nou would remain limitedBarcelona winger Jeffren has revealed his preferred option was to stay at the Catalan club and prove himself, but the Spain Under-21 international is poised to sign for Sporting Lisbon after the two sides reportedly agreed a €5 million deal.
Jeffren is hoping to become an influential member at the Portuguese outfit after finding playing time very limited at the Camp Nou, where he has spent the last seven years.
And though the 23-year-old revealed he is looking forward to playing for Sporting, he admitted his gloom at parting with Barcelona.
"I am sad because I did not want the leave the club I love, but I also have a huge excitement about this new challenge at Sporting, and who knows, maybe someday I can return to Barcelona," Jeffren told Cadena Cope.
"[Coach Pep Guardiola] told me I would not have much playing time, so I thought, together with my family, I'd join another club, where I could play more.
"I appreciate the coach's sincerity. He gave me the opportunity to play for the best team in the world."
According to Maisfutebol, Jeffren will fly to Lisbon on Wednesday evening and could be formally unveiled by Sporting on Thursday.
