thumbnail Hello,

The defender's contract negotiations with Real Madrid have stalled, and Chelsea could use just that opportunity to sign the Portuguese international

Chelsea are determined to prize defender Pepe away from Real Madrid, news daily Marca claims.

New Blues boss Andre Villas-Boas has reportedly identified the heart of the defence as one sector in need of some changes, as he looks to put his stamp on the the side he inherited from Carlo Ancelotti.

Pepe, who cost Real Madrid €30 million in 2007, is believed to be unhappy at the lack of progress over a new deal with the Spanish club, and could look to move on as a result.

The Spanish capital club will reportedly not offer Pepe more than a €4m-a-year deal, and according to Marca, Chelsea are prepared to equip the Portugal international with an annual €5m salary.
