VVV-Venlo sign one-year-old on ten-year contract

Modest Dutch team have acquired the services of a toddler after watching video footage of him

Dutch club VVV-Venlo have signed an 18-month-old toddler on a ten-year contract after being impressed with his football skills on YouTube.

After watching Baerke van der Meij kicking footballs into his toy box accuracy, the Dutch side decided to make the move and snap up the toddler, handing him a long-term contract.

Venlo even held a press conference to give the deal a regular professional outlook but state that the signing of the contract in front of the press was symbolic.

"The toddler's favourite position has not yet been determined,” said the club in a statement. “However, we can speak of a right-footed player with a very good kicking technique, perseverance and, importantly, football genes via his grandfather.”

Van der Meij’s grandfather, Jan, is a former player of Venlo.
