Manchester United and Barcelona are set to go head to head in the race to sign 16-year-old Besiktas prospect Muhammed Demirci, according to talkSPORT.
The youngster is rated as one of Europe’s top prospects, with reports likening him to Barca star Lionel Messi, despite only making his senior debut this month.
The talented youngster has a deal with the Turkish side until 2013, but could be set for a summer move with reports suggesting that Barcelona had already offered him a deal to join them, and Sir Alex Ferguson interested in bringing him to Old Trafford.
It has been reported that Demirci would favour a move to England, and if United were to follow up on their interest in the Turkish Under-16 star then it would be a clear signal that they are set to continue their move to bring up and coming prospects to the club.
Chris Smalling and Javier Hernandez both signed for the Premier League leaders last summer, and Anderlecht prospect Adnan Januzaj is reportedly on the verge of joining the club as they look to inject some youth into their squad.
