thumbnail Hello,

Young defender Aleksandar Dragovic has left Austria Wien for Basel.

Reigning Swiss champions Basel have completed the transfer of promising defender Aleksandar Dragovic from Austrian outfit Austria Wien for an undisclosed fee. The 19-year-old has signed a contract until the summer of 2015 with his new club.

Basel were eager to add some more depth to their back-line in the January transfer window and eventually found their man on deadline day.

Dragovic came through the ranks of the Austria Wien youth academy and has made 67 Austrian Bundesliga appearances, featured in 15 UEFA Europa League matches and has been capped nine times by Austria.

He had also attracted the interest of Eredivisie clubs such as Twente and Ajax, but has now decided to join Basel instead.

"The club are involved in the European competitions every year. Above all, Basel like to play a technical and attacking style of football, which concurs with my own philosophy," commented Dragovic on his transfer.
