A note on the club's official website states that 'Pitbull', 23, will be presented in Andalucia on Monday and has signed a four-year contract with the club starting immediately; although Sevilla declined to release details of the transfer fee. The combative midfielder is seen as a key recruit as seventh-placed Sevilla look to qualify for European football in 2011.
The statement described Medel as someone who can "play all over the park with heart and passion, a born footballer who harries the opposition and always supports his team-mates". The player joins a lengthy list of South Americans who star for the Nervionenses, including Brazilian international Luis Fabiano and Argentines Federico Fazio, Diego Perotti and Lautaro Acosta.
Medel started his career in Universidad Catolica and for the last two years has played in Argentina for Boca, although his playing rights continued to belong to the Santiago giants. At just 23 years old the versatile player has racked up 23 caps for the Roja, scoring three times, and also enjoyed an excellent World Cup campaign in 2010.
