Barcelona legend Johan Cruyff has commented in his weekly column that if Dani Alves is considering an offer from Manchester City when his contract expires, then the club should bid him farewell.
The Brazilian wide player has been locked in negotiations with the Catalan giants for a number of months regarding signing a contract extension on his current deal which expires in the summer of 2012.
However, in El Periodico de Catalunya, Cruyff criticised the 27-year-old for even considering a move away from the Camp Nou.
He remarked: “Barcelona are a sensational team, with Dani Alves and without him. Is it better to have him? Sure. Is it true that he has had an offer from Manchester City, if so, he will be waiting until his contract expires to leave for free.
“When a club like Manchester City break the salary scales like nothing else, the ground rules do not seem to be the same for them. Nobody doubts his worth, and no-one questions his quality.
“But the negotiation should by clear. If he wants €2 million more, gross, tell him thank you, goodbye and good luck.”
Discussions between the player and club are thought to be continuing.
