Real Sociedad have confirmed the signing of Rosenborg defender Vadim Demidov on a two-and-a-half year contract commencing from January 1, 2011.
The Norwegian international’s current deal with the Troillongan expires on December 31, 2010, and the Primera Division side have swooped to secure Demidov on a deal until June 2013, according to their official club website.
The centre-half becomes the sixth signing of the season for coach Martin Lasarte, and will provide an additional defensive option as the coach looks to retain the San Sebastian club’s top flight status.
The 23-year-old was born in the Latvian capital of Riga, and his famous father, handball coach Sergei, took him to Scandinavia where he begun his football career at the age of just 16 with Sandefjord.
He moved to perennial Norwegian champions Rosenborg in 2008 and there he established himself as a first-team regular, making over 30 appearances last season and also made his national team bow for his adopted homeland.
Demidov also has experience in both the Champions League and Europa League, and is a shrewd signing for Lasarte as he looks to build a squad in the Basque country.
