Arsenal Face Battle With Fiorentina Over Potential Signing Of PSV Eindhoven Star Ibrahim Afellay - Report

Ibrahim Afellay - PSV (PROSHOTS)
Arsenal are reportedly set to face stiff competition from Serie A outfit Fiorentina as they attempt to complete the signing of highly-rated midfielder Ibrahim Afellay.

The 24-year-old is currently plying his trade in the Eredivisie with Dutch side PSV Eindhoven but his contract expires next summer, which will leave him free to speak to clubs regarding any potential move in January.

According to Talksport, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is a keen admirer of the attacking midfielder, whose natural position is on the flanks, and the prospect of a free signing next summer could step up his hunt to tempt the Holland international to the Emirates.

PSV have valued their Afellay at £10 million, which has detracted a host of clubs making an offer since his contract is close to expiring, but they may now slash their price in order to get some money from the deal instead of watching him move for free next year.

The Holland international is also wanted by Fiorentina, which could complicate matters for Wenger if he decides to wait to secure a free transfer rather than make a firm bid.
