Atletico Madrid general manager Miguel Angel Gil Marin has claimed that los Colchoneros were never interested in Galatasaray winger Arda Turan and that they made the official bid only on the say-so of agent Jorge Mendez.

The Spanish side submitted an €11 million offer for Turan on Tuesday but Galatasaray rejected the bid. However, the Atletico supremo now claims that Atletico were never interested in the 23-year-old in the first place.

"Agent Jorge Mendez asked me to make a favour for a Turkish friend of his. I told him that Atletico Madrid are not interested in Arda and do not have €11 million to spend," Gil Marin said, according to Turkish daily Milliyet.

"Mendez told me that an official offer would suffice and he also guaranteed that Galatasaray will reject the offer. After getting this guarantee I sent the relevant paperwork. In reality, we were never interested in Arda."
