Lazio president Claudio Lotito has said the club will have another go at landing Roque Santa Cruz from Manchester City, while insisting Mauro Zarate will not leave the club.

Hopes of getting his man seemed in short supply when the transfer from City collapsed on Tuesday. Reports claimed the deal failed because Santa Cruz wanted Lazio to bulge out his wage packet.

Nevertheless, Lotito has another plan lined up for the January transfer campaign.

"We have decided to take time and wait for the next transfer market to evaluate the possibility of signing Santa Cruz," he told Itasportpress.

"In that role though we have plenty of strikers. Will I accept offers for Zarate? Absolutely not. The player is not for sale."
