Inter head coach Rafael Benitez has distanced himself from claims he has broken a promise to Liverpool by trying to land Dirk Kuyt and Javier Mascherano.
The duo are both on the Spaniard's shopping list, with a £20 million bid being slapped in for the Argentina skipper and Kuyt's agent claiming a deal is close. Benitez was understood to have signed an agreement to not pilfer his former side when he left Anfield this summer.
Speaking at a press conference, he stated technical director Marco Branca and president Massimo Moratti dictate Inter's transfer policy: "I will not talk about this because I am the coach.
"The coach cannot sign any players. It has to be the technical director and the chairman. The club can do it. I am the coach, not the manager."
