Manchester United could be set for one last plunge into the summer transfer market with a move for long-term target Steven Defour, according to skysports.com.

Defour, 22, is classed as one of the most highly rated young midfielders in Europe after rising to prominence at Standard Liege. The Belgium international is a favourite of Sir Alex Ferguson, with the Scot even writing him a letter last year when he suffered a broken foot.

Ferguson had previously declared his business was over until the New Year but he could decide to trump rival clubs such as Liverpool with a move. Defour had previously stated his desire to play in the Premier League and United are in need of a reinforcement after Owen Hargreaves' failure to reach match fitness.
