Inter are paying attention to winger Juan Mata and could swoop for the Spaniard if he doesn't sign an extension with Valencia.
Mata has reportedly been promised a new deal by Los Che, but that has not taken off the ground, leaving Inter with a chance to throw together a move as coach Rafael Benitez considers him as an alternative to Mario Balotelli who is set to join Manchester City.
Tuttomercatoweb.com claims the 22-year-old Spanish international is valued between €20-25 million - affordbale for Inter once they cash in on Balotelli, but they may face competition from Barcelona, who are also after him.
Valencia have maintained they will not sell their man following the departures of David Villa, David Silva and Carlos Marchena, and Mata is hopeful of a new deal, despite his current terms having two years left to run.
"The club expressed a desire to improve my contract, but it has not happened," Mata told Marca on Tuesday.
Valencia's lack of haste could pave the way for Inter to make an approach with Benitez keeping his options open.
