Arsenal are set to be priced out of a move for Italy World Cup 2010 goalkeeper Federico Marchetti unless Cagliari drop their £12.5 million valuation, according to the Daily Star.

Marchetti, 27, came to prominence in South Africa after Gianluigi Buffon picked up a back injury, playing the remaining two games in the Azzurri's ultimately ill-fated campaign.

Following an impressive Serie A campaign, Gunners manager Arsene Wenger is understood to have seen an initial £5.4 million bid rejected. Despite having a transfer request accepted, Calgliari have shocked both Marchetti and Arsenal with their demands.

Unless they drop the fee, the deal could be shelved in favour of a move for Fulham veteran Mark Schwarzer.
