Benfica Set €40m Price Tag For Chelsea And Manchester City Target David Luiz - Report
The 23-year-old, who earned his first call-up to the Brazil squad earlier this week, has attracted the attention of the two Premier League clubs following an impressive season in Portugal, while Real Madrid are also believed to be interested in him.
Chelsea have defensive problems ahead of the new season. Alex will miss the start of the campaign through injury and Ricardo Carvalho has confirmed his interest in a reunion with former boss Jose Mourinho at Real Madrid, which could spark a move by the Blues for Luiz.
Meanwhile, Manchester City are also reportedly interested in the defender, who can play centre-back and left-back. Roberto Mancini currently has Kolo Toure, Joleon Lescott and Vincent Kompany as his three main central defenders, but none of that trio cemented his place in the City backline last season.
Should Chelsea pip City to the signing of Luiz, it may not be the only business between them and Benfica this summer. Brazilian midfielder Ramires is reportedly close to sealing a move to Stamford Bridge for a fee of around €24m.
