Cagliari Put Italy Goalkeeper Federico Marchetti Up For Sale As Arsenal Come Forward - Report
Cagliari have announced Federico Marchetti is on the transfer market...
By Salvatore Landolina
A statement released on the Sardinian club's official website on Tuesday afternoon reads:
"Cagliari Calcio takes note that the player Federico Marchetti has expressed his desire to leave across the media.
"The club will now do everything to make him happy. Whenever Marchetti effectively leaves Cagliari, the first-choice goalkeeper will be [Michael] Agazzi. Cagliari Calcio are not looking for a new goalkeeper."
The club's response comes after Marchetti told Italian media he was disappointed that a prospective move to Sampdoria failed.
And with the Rossoblu making it clear they no longer feel the 'keeper will continue, Yahoo Sport Italia claim Arsenal are following him.
Manuel Almunia has been linked with a return to Spain with Osasuna reportedly interested in him, according to English reports.
Arsene Wenger has been following Fulham's Mark Schwarzer, but that move has become unstuck as the Cottagers are in no mood to sell their first-choice shot-stopper.
That has left the Gunners with an option on Marchetti, who would be eager to try a new experience in the Premier League following his breakdown in Cagliari.
