Juventus are discussing a new deal with Giorgio Chiellini as the club renew their interest in Lazio left-back Aleksandar Kolarov.
Tuttosport reports Chiellini, his agent Davide Lippi and Juve director Giuseppe Marotta enjoyed an exchange of words and ideas over a new and improved contract. The Italian defender earns around €2 million per annum, but he wants more recognition and a top player wage. Diego and Alessandro Del Piero are among the rich earners, with Gianluigi Buffon top of the payroll list on €6m a season.
Marotta agrees that Chiellini deserves more, but new policies wanted by president Andrea Agnelli focused on curbing the spending have seen negotiations for mega bucks falter. Nevertheless, all three men are expected to meet again next week and reach a compromise.
Meanwhile, Manchester City target Aleksandar Kolarov and Lazio are having their heads turned by Juventus' latest plan as they try to squeeze themselves in between the Premier League and Roman clubs for the Serbian.
He has been tipped to join City after reports claimed the clubs agreed a €19m deal. But Tuttosport insists Juventus could scupper that. The Bianconeri are offer cash plus Sebastian Giovinco - liked by Lazio, but a favourite to join Bari - for Kolarov.
If Kolarov joins City then Juventus will relaunch interest in Real Madrid's Royston Drenthe.
