Celtic are on the verge of signing Barcelona youth team player Efrain Juarez for £3 million, according to the Scottish press.
According to the Scottish Sun, Juarez turned down an offer from Barcelona, probably seeing himself as a regular in Glasgow, something that would be difficult to establish in Spain, where Barca want to use him as a right-back.
Debate surrounds Juarez's best position as he is capable of playing in defence or on the wing. Celtic coach Neil Lennon could, however, use him as a holding midfielder after missing out on Landy N'Guemo.
The 22-year-old made his debut for Mexico in the summer of 2009 and has already over 20 international caps. Juarez played three times during the World Cup in South Africa, twice in the group stage and also against Argentina. The versatile player is yet to score a goal in senior football but did find the net in a penalty shootout against Costa Rica.
