Panathinaikos Chasing Arsenal Defender William Gallas
The Greek Champions have joined the race to sign the Frenchman...
Athenian giants Panathinaikos have joined the race for Arsenal's William Gallas, sources within the club have revealed. The Greek Champions are keen on signing a proven centre-back this summer and have set their sights on the Gunners defender, who is available on a free transfer from the Emirates.
Panathinaikos have contacted the Frenchman’s agent with an offer of €2.5 million plus bonuses per season. The length of the contract is unknown, but it is speculated that Gallas has been offered a two-year contract at the minimum.
The Trifylli were reportedly looking to sign Schalke defender Marcelo Bordon before the Brazilian opted to sign with Qatar’s Al Rayyan.
The Greek giants join several sides bidding for Gallas’ services, with Paris St. Germain, Juventus, and Schalke said to be among the front-runners.
If Gallas decides to sign with the Greek titleholders, he would join international team-mates Djibril Cisse and Sidney Govou at the OAKA Spyros Louis Stadium. Panathinaikos are hoping Gallas’ close relationship with his French colleagues will lure him to the Greek capital.
