Real Madrid are hoping to tie up a deal for Inter Milan right-back Maicon in two days' time, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Brazil international has been strongly linked with football at Santiago Bernabeu following the installment of Jose Mourinho as coach of the Merengues.

Having worked with Maicon during his two years in charge of Inter, Mourinho is an avid fan of the 28-year-old's qualities, and he is keen to make him his first big signing.

However, Inter and Real Madrid have been unable to come to an understanding regarding the transfer fee, with the Nerazzurri uninterested in selling him cheap.

Fresh reports in Italy suggest that Madrid president, Florentino Perez, yesterday spoke on the phone with his Inter counterpart, Massimo Moratti, to proceed with negotiations.

It is believed that during this conversation, Perez increased his side's bid to €28 million, with Moratti asking for two more million euros to sell Maicon.

The Italian publication suggests that all details could be discussed and the transfer could be completed within the next 48 hours.
