Tottenham Hotspur Striker Robbie Keane Close To Aston Villa Move - Report
Tottenham Hotspur are close to agreeing a deal with Aston Villa for the transfer of Robbie Keane, according to the News of the World.
But the newspaper reports that Villa will need to pay £18 million for the services of the Republic of Ireland international, a fee that Martin O'Neill does not want to pay.
Keane spent five months on loan at Celtic at the end of last season, scoring 16 goals in just 19 appearances.
But despite an impressive spell in Scotland, Keane's first team opportunites at White Hart Lane look to be limited next season with Jermain Defoe, Peter Crouch, Roman Pavlyuchenko and Eidur Gudjohnson all fighting for a forward spot.
And the 29-year-old looks set to move for the eighth time in eleven years, a move that could make him the second most expensive footballer in history.
Keane has fetched over £70 million in transfer fees in a career that has seen him play for clubs including Inter Milan, Leeds United and Liverpool.
The report claims that although the clubs are still negotiating a fee, Keane will have talks with Martin O'Neill this week.
Aston Villa have been looking for a prolific goalscorer for some time, with current striker Emile Heskey and John Carew failing to hit the net on a regular basis.
Indeed the duo have also been linked with moves away from the club to Wolverhampton Wanderers and Fiorentina respectively.
