thumbnail Hello,

Manchester City will have to pay Benfica €50 million (£43m) if they are to tempt them to part with Brazilian defender David Luiz, according to a report from The Independent.

The versatile defender would give City boss Roberto Mancini options at left-back as well as centre-back; and despite not yet having been handed a chance to impress on the international stage, Luiz is regarded as one of the world's best up-and-coming stars.

City may face a battle tempting the player away from Portugal because they cannot offer him Champions League football.

His agent may advise him to remain for another year at Benfica, where he has a genuine bond with the fans, and where he may become a full international and so command a more lucrative deal.
